School life at Totley Primary School is shaped by high expectations, a strong sense of belonging and a commitment to helping every child flourish.
Routines and expectations
Children at Totley Primary School follow clear and consistent routines that create a calm and purposeful learning environment.
We believe that excellent school attendance is crucial in enabling children to maximise the educational opportunities available to them, including their attainment, wellbeing and wider life chances.
We view the promotion of great attendance as a key aspect of our whole-school ethos and, as such, it is the responsibility of everyone within the school community. Every school day matters.
Our Attitudes to Learning Framework teaches pupils how to become good listeners, hard workers, team players and independent learners. Through individual reward charts, children work towards bronze and silver awards before striving for the prestigious Role Model Star, celebrating resilience, confidence and great learning behaviours.
Alongside this, Totley follows a set of Golden Rules that help maintain a safe and happy environment for all. Clear expectations around uniform also help promote equality and belonging, with children wearing a simple but smart, non-branded navy-and-white scheme.
Leadership opportunities for pupils
Leadership at all levels is woven into the culture of Totley Primary School.
Right from the start of their journey in Reception, pupils are encouraged to take ownership of their school and develop independence through a wide range of leadership groups, which include:
- House Captains
- Junior Leadership Team
- Library Leaders
- Office Angels
- Reader Leaders
- Road Safety Officers
- Playground Buddies
These roles provide children with meaningful responsibilities and ensure their voices contribute to ongoing school development.
House captains, for example, campaign for election and are voted in by their peers, experiencing democratic processes first-hand.
